Let us come before the Lord and pray for the grace to resist gluttony and excessive consumption.

Lord, have mercy on us for the times we have allowed our desire for food and drink to consume our thoughts and actions.

Lord, have mercy on us for the times we have overindulged in food and drink, and failed to practice self-control and moderation.

Lord, have mercy on us for the times we have used food and drink as a source of comfort and escape from our problems, and failed to turn to you for help.

Lord, have mercy on us for the times we have wasted food and other resources, and failed to consider the needs of others who go hungry.

Lord, have mercy on us for the times we have neglected our own physical health, and caused harm to our bodies through excessive consumption.

Lord, have mercy on us for the times we have failed to recognize the spiritual dimension of our physical nourishment, and failed to offer thanks and gratitude to you for your provision.

May we seek to imitate the self-discipline and self-control of Christ, who fasted for forty days and taught us to rely on your word as our sustenance.

Amen.
